3 Perfect Days in Charleston: A Weekend Getaway Full of Food, History & Charm

Getting There & Staying Local

We flew direct on Breeze Airways—our first time with them—and were pleasantly surprised by how nice the experience was. Once we landed, we checked into the Marriott Charleston Historic District, which turned out to be the perfect home base. We could walk to almost everything, which made exploring that much more enjoyable.

Day 1: Food Tour, Market Vibes & Husk

We hit the ground running with a Charleston food tour that gave us a fantastic taste of the city’s culinary scene. Charleston is truly a foodie’s dream.

Since we arrived on a Friday, we also got to experience the Charleston City Night Market, open only on Friday and Saturday evenings. Live music, local artists, and a great vibe.

Dinner that night was at Husk—a bucket list spot for Southern cuisine. Between the creative flavors and historic setting, it was the perfect end to our first night.

Day 2: Biscuits, Boats & Ghosts

We started with breakfast at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit (don’t miss the sausage, egg & pimento cheese combo).

Next, we took a ferry to Fort Sumter and explored the USS Yorktown—both full of fascinating history.

Back in town, we had lunch at 167 Raw Oyster Bar on King Street. This place was a highlight—no reservations, but totally worth the wait for the fresh oysters and vibrant atmosphere.

We wandered through shops on King Street, then visited Rainbow Row and the Pineapple Fountain for those iconic Charleston moments.

Dinner was at FIG, and it might’ve been the best meal we’ve ever had. Every bite was perfect. We ended the night with a haunted tour of the Old City Jail—a fun, spooky way to explore more of Charleston’s past.

Day 3: Brunch, Markets & Plantation Beauty

Our final day began with brunch at Church and Union—an absolutely gorgeous restaurant set in a former church, with bold decor and an equally bold brunch menu (the French toast is a must!).

Afterward, we headed to the Charleston City Market to shop for souvenirs for the girls (and maybe a few treats for ourselves).

We then visited Boone Hall Plantation—and I’m so glad we went. It was emotional, beautiful, and deeply educational.

We wrapped things up with lunch at Poogan’s Porch, a cozy spot for Southern comfort food, and finished the trip with a relaxing historic carriage ride through the city before heading to the airport for our late-night flight home.

Whenever I travel I always get a Christmas Ornament as a keepsake. This is the artist that hand-painted my ornament of Boone Hall Plantation. She does amazing work!

Final Thoughts

Charleston is one of those rare cities that checks every box: amazing food, rich history, and unbeatable charm. Whether you’re exploring cobblestone streets or savoring fresh seafood, you’ll fall in love just like we did. Already planning our next visit!
